Britain’s Got Talent’s live shows are nearly upon us, with a handful of hopefuls taking to the stage once again in the hopes of earning a place in the big 2025 final. While in previous years, fans would typically strap in for a week of live semi-finals on ITV – however, the broadcaster has switched up this stage in the competition for the first time in 19 years.
Earlier this week, ITV announced that the semi-finals will be airing every Saturday across five weekends, which means that fans will get five extra weeks of Britain’s Got Talent. “Britain’s Got Talent will be more entertaining than ever before, not only with the addition of the Golden Buzzer for the live shows, but the semi-finals will now air live every Saturday night, claiming the weekends as the home of BGT. Be prepared for unpredictable, unmissable and unbeatable event television,” the channel explained.
It also means that the final will be airing at a much later date than usual – with the 2025 series likely to crown its champion on Saturday 31 May. The BGT final has typically aired in June, however this year’s series began much earlier as it kicked off in February instead of the usual April date.
The upcoming final will see the last remaining BGT contestants hope to impress the judges and the public one last time for a chance to win £250,000 and a spot performing at the Royal Variety Performance.
For the first time in the show’s history, the final will also feature acts who have received a Golden Buzzer at the semi-final stage – with either Ant and Dec or one of the judges being given the power to send a semi-finalist straight to the live final before the public vote.
Richard Arnold announced on Good Morning Britain this week the exciting BGT news. “For the first time in BGT history, the buzzer will now appear during the live rounds. It has already been pressed eight times this series,” he said.
Those set to perform in the semi-final include choir Electric Umbrella, impressionist Will Burns and a host of singers: Linda Mudzenda, Stacey Leadbeatter, Maya Giotea and Vinnie McKee. They’ll be joined by dance group The Blackouts and guitarist Olly Pearson – with all of the acts receiving Golden Buzzers during their auditions.
