Bryson DeChambeau brushes off YouTube popularity critics

-

Bryson DeChambeau, known for his success in LIV Golf and as a member of Team USA, has responded to critics questioning his popularity on YouTube. This comes just before the Ryder Cup commences at Bethpage Black on September 26.

DeChambeau shrugged off recent criticism from Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee while interacting with fans and signing autographs. Chamblee’s negative comments about DeChambeau date back to before his victory at the 2020 US Open.

During a LIV event in Mexico City, Chamblee advised DeChambeau to stop complaining about bunkers. Criticizing DeChambeau further, Chamblee labeled him as a “captain’s nightmare,” an “odd duck,” and a “circus barker” from the Ryder Cup perspective. Chamblee also questioned DeChambeau’s substantial YouTube following of 2.43 million, hinting that it might not be entirely genuine.

Chamblee’s critique was linked to DeChambeau’s comments at the ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ premiere, where he talked about engaging with Rory during the Ryder Cup but omitted discussing winning the event, focusing instead on his YouTube pursuits.

The backlash on social media was met with support from US captain Keegan Bradley, who praised DeChambeau for his contributions to the team. Golfer Scottie Scheffler also commended DeChambeau as a strong competitor based on their previous experiences on the course.

Xander Schauffele expressed confidence in DeChambeau’s potential to make a difference in the US team’s efforts to reclaim the Cup. Fans showed their support for DeChambeau during practice rounds in New York, creating a memorable scene where they eagerly sought his autographs and merchandise.

DeChambeau’s popular “Break 50” YouTube series, featuring collaborations with notable figures like Donald Trump, John Daly, and Adam Sandler, has garnered millions of views. His recent video, released just before Scottie Scheffler’s victory at the Procore Championship, showcases his attempts to set public course records at Sawgrass and Oakmont.

When asked about Chamblee’s remarks, DeChambeau simply smiled and dismissed them, maintaining his focus on engaging with fans and enjoying the game.
