The Canadian government is set to launch an anticipated automatic tax filing system for low-income individuals and establish the school food program on a permanent basis ahead of an upcoming federal budget aimed at providing essential support for the nation’s most vulnerable populations.
During a press event in his Nepean constituency in Ontario, Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled these initiatives, along with a commitment to extending the Canada Strong pass into the holiday period and through the summer of 2026.
“We are preparing to make responsible and practical choices in the upcoming budget, including challenging decisions,” stated Carney at the press conference. “Our focus is on safeguarding crucial programs and initiatives that assist the most marginalized members of our society… We are dedicated to creating programs that foster advancement for all.”
