The Canadian women’s national soccer team is scheduled to compete in two matches against Japan in Nagasaki during the upcoming November FIFA international break. Ranked ninth globally, Canada will take on the eighth-ranked Japanese team on November 29 and December 2.
The initial match will be held at Nagasaki Stadium City (Peace Stadium), with the second game set to take place at Transcosmos Stadium Nagasaki in nearby Isahaya. Expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming challenge, Canada’s coach, Casey Stoney, emphasized the importance of facing Japan as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualification journey.
Describing Japan as one of the most technically proficient and tactically disciplined teams globally, Stoney acknowledged the demanding nature of playing on Japanese soil. The team anticipates valuable learning experiences from the matches.
In historical matchups, Japan holds the edge with an 8-4-4 record against Canada since their first encounter in 1995. Canada has not secured a victory in their last three meetings, with their most recent encounter resulting in a 3-0 defeat at the 2023 SheBelieves Cup. The team’s last triumph over Japan was a 2-0 win at the 2018 Algarve Cup.
