Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the next stage of the U.S. Open by securing straight-set wins on Tuesday. Shapovalov, the 27th seed in the men’s category, defeated Marton Fucsovics from Hungary with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 6-0. Similarly, Auger-Aliassime, seeded 25th, faced a tougher challenge from British player Billy Harris but managed to win 6-4, 7-6 (8), 6-4.

With these victories, all three seeded Canadian male players in the main draw have progressed to the second round, following Gabriel Diallo’s win over Damir Dzumhur on Monday. Shapovalov is set to compete against French wildcard Valentin Royer next, while Auger-Aliassime will face Russia’s Roman Safiullin.

Shapovalov showed excellent form in his match, dominating the court and eventually clinching victory. Auger-Aliassime, on the other hand, utilized his powerful serve to overcome a high number of unforced errors. The Montreal player’s impressive performance secured him a spot in the next round.

The crowd at Court 17 showed strong support for the Canadian players, with chants of “Let’s go, Shapo!” resonating throughout the match. Shapovalov now boasts a record of 28-0 in Grand Slam matches when leading after two sets, while Auger-Aliassime aims to build on his success from previous tournaments.

In a separate match, Iga Swiatek, the No. 2 seed, started her U.S. Open campaign with a commanding victory over Emiliana Arango in just one hour. Swiatek’s performance showcased her dominance on the court, winning 23 of 26 first serves and claiming a significant lead in winners.

Furthermore, defending champion Jannik Sinner began his title defense with a convincing win over Vit Kopriva. Sinner, who had recently battled illness, displayed no signs of weakness as he swiftly defeated his Czech opponent in straight sets.

The ongoing U.S. Open promises more exciting matchups, with top players like Sabalenka, Alcaraz, Djokovic, and Pegula scheduled to compete in the upcoming rounds. The tournament continues to be a platform for showcasing top-tier tennis talent and fierce competition.
