“Canadian Men’s Soccer Team Rises to No. 26 in FIFA Rankings”

-

The Canadian men’s national soccer team has made significant progress in the latest FIFA world rankings, moving up two positions to reach No. 26. This climb began when Jesse Marsch became the head coach in May 2024, with Canada ranked 49th at that time. Since then, the team has steadily improved, surpassing its previous highest rank of No. 33 achieved under former coach John Herdman in February 2022 during a successful World Cup qualifying campaign.

In November, Canada reached No. 31 and maintained this position until the end of 2024. In 2025, the team achieved new milestones by reaching No. 30 in April and No. 28 in July. Currently, Canada sits between Australia and Turkey in the rankings after victories against Romania (No. 51) and Wales (No. 30) during the September FIFA window.

Looking ahead, Canada is set to face Australia (No. 25) and Colombia (No. 13) in upcoming matches. Meanwhile, Spain has claimed the top spot in the rankings for the first time since June 2014, displacing Argentina, who had been the No. 1 team since April 2023. Germany has dropped out of the top 10, falling to No. 12 following a World Cup qualifying defeat against Slovakia, which rose to No. 42.

Morocco has made impressive strides, climbing to No. 11 after winning eight of its nine recent matches. In the CONCACAF region, Mexico leads the rankings at No. 14, followed by the United States at No. 16 and Canada at No. 26. Several other nations experienced notable changes in their rankings, with The Gambia, Madagascar, Paraguay, Uganda, Libya, Suriname, and the Faroe Islands moving up, while Zimbabwe dropped nine places to No. 125.
