“Canadian Postal Workers Union to Hold Talks with Canada Post”

-

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has scheduled two days of discussions with Canada Post. Representing approximately 55,000 postal employees, the union confirmed that both parties engaged with federal mediators on Tuesday and have arranged to meet on Friday and Monday.

This development follows the rejection by workers of Canada Post’s recent proposal, which included a four-year plan for salary increases totaling around 13% and a reorganization to incorporate part-time staff. Despite the ongoing negotiations for a new collective agreement, the union has upheld a national ban on overtime.

Responding to the situation, a Canada Post spokesperson emphasized the necessity for modernizing the Crown corporation amid declining letter mail volumes and escalating competition in the parcel segment, which is posing operational challenges. The spokesperson expressed anticipation for a comprehensive response from the union addressing the postal service’s pressing issues during the upcoming meeting on Friday.
