Canadian swimming sensation Summer McIntosh has already made a mark in history with her impressive performances and three Olympic gold medals from the Paris 2024 Games, but her coach Fred Vergnoux is convinced that she has even more potential to showcase.
Vergnoux, who has a successful track record coaching athletes at multiple Olympics, including the most recent five summer editions, is currently working with McIntosh in France, preparing her for the upcoming World Aquatics swimming championships in Singapore, set to kick off on July 27.
Under Vergnoux’s guidance, McIntosh shattered three world records during the Canadian trials in June, excelling in the 400-meter freestyle, the 200-meter individual medley, and breaking her own 400m IM record.
According to Vergnoux, McIntosh’s exceptional consistency and dedication set her apart from her peers. He emphasizes that her age, being just 18, combined with her relentless work ethic, contributes to her success in the pool.
Looking ahead, Vergnoux believes that McIntosh is poised for more victories and potentially breaking world records in the 200m butterfly and the 800m events. He highlights that despite McIntosh’s recent achievements, she narrowly missed setting a record in the 200m butterfly, which he considers a challenging feat to accomplish.
McIntosh’s triumphs have not gone unnoticed, with fans eagerly anticipating her showdown with legendary swimmer Katie Ledecky in the 800m event in Singapore. McIntosh previously outperformed Ledecky in a national competition, showcasing her potential to take on the reigning champion in the upcoming championship.
As McIntosh continues her training journey, she is set to relocate to Texas to train under renowned coach Bob Bowman, known for his work with Michael Phelps. Before her move, McIntosh is gearing up to compete in multiple events at the swim worlds, including the 200m butterfly, 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle, and 200m and 400m IMs.
With McIntosh’s remarkable achievements and promising future in the sport, Vergnoux is optimistic about the young swimmer’s potential to leave a lasting legacy in the world of swimming.
