CBC/Radio-Canada has revealed that they will be the exclusive broadcaster for the next four editions of the Canada Games, starting with this summer’s event in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. This extended partnership will cover the Canada Games from 2025 to 2031, offering widespread coverage to audiences nationwide. The upcoming Games include two summer editions and two winter editions:
– 2025 St. John’s (August 9 – 24, 2025)
– 2027 Québec City (February 27 – March 14)
– 2029 Moncton | Saint John (summer, dates to be announced)
– 2031 Canada Games in Québec (winter, host city and dates to be announced)
CBC/Radio-Canada will present comprehensive coverage of the Canada Games in English on platforms such as CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca, and CBC Sports YouTube channel. In French, the coverage will be available on ICI TOU.TV’s sports section and the ICI TOU.TV app. Notably, for the upcoming St. John’s Games in August, all 1,250 hours of coverage will be accessible for streaming on CBC and Radio-Canada platforms.
Marie-Philippe Bouchard, the president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, highlighted the unifying power of sports in bringing Canadians together. Bouchard emphasized the corporation’s dedication to supporting amateur athletes by partnering with the Canada Games Council to showcase the largest amateur sport competition in the country.
The Canada Games Council, a non-profit organization, governs the Canada Games, which serve as the premier national competition for emerging Canadian athletes, held biennially in alternating winter and summer editions. Since their inception in 1967 in Quebec City, the Games have been hosted in every province at least once.
Kelly-Ann Paul, the president and CEO of the Canada Games Council, expressed the significance of the collaboration with CBC/Radio-Canada in providing a national platform for Canada Games athletes and their narratives. This partnership underscores their joint commitment to celebrating the unifying essence of sports across Canada.
It is noteworthy that out of the 316 Canadian athletes who participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics, 103 had previously competed in the Canada Games, including the Paris 4×100-meter relay gold medalists Andre De Grasse and Jerome Blake.
