Trinity Page Davenport claims ChatGPT could well have saved her life when she asked AI for a palm reading, hoping to gain insight into her love life. Instead of romantic predictions, the 24-year-old received an alarming health warning from the bot.
Upon sending a photo of her hand via the chat service, Trinity was urged to seek medical advice as the AI identified a mole beneath her forefinger that looked suspiciously like acral lentiginous melanoma – a rare but serious form of skin cancer.
Speaking about the unexpected turn of events, Trinity expressed awe over the potentially life-saving intervention by the AI. She said: “It’s really cool to think about the ways that AI can help people and if this is an instance in which a robot saved my life so to speak, I will be really grateful and I hope that more people use the technology if they’re concerned,” reports Wales Online.
She continued: “I asked ChatGPT for a palm reading because I was interested in getting it done and I don’t have a person who does it near me. I expected it to talk about my love life because that’s what I was most interested in finding out about.”
The response Trinity received was unexpectedly serious: “Before we get into any palm reading – I strongly recommend you get that mole on your palm checked out by a dermatologist. It may be nothing, but its location and appearance could resemble something called acral lentiginous melanoma, which is a rare but serious form of skin cancer that tends to appear on the palms, soles, or under nails.
“It’s always better to be safe and get a professional evaluation. Once you’ve had it looked at and cleared, I’d be happy to read your palm for fun.”
Trinity recalled the mole “pop up” in 2020 following the birth of her son, never suspecting it could be harmful.
Regarding ChatGPT’s advice, Trinity commented: “I was pretty calm because I have had a lot of health issues in the past and it’s just something else I need to get looked at.” She is currently waiting to see her doctor to have the mole examined.
