Chris Eubank Jr caught out in lie just days before Conor Benn fight

Must read

Chris Eubank Jr was left red-faced after he was caught telling a lie when predicting a hypothetical fight between Ben Shalom and Eddie Hearn.

Eubank Jr, 35, is currently in the final stages of his preparations for his upcoming showdown with long-time rival Conor Benn. The pair will go head-to-head at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday night. The son of legendary British boxer Chris Eubank Sr will have a sizeable advantage over his foe on fight night.

Benn will be moving up two weight classes in order to fight Eubank Jr. Since the fight was confirmed, the pair have traded barbs on multiple occasions. Even the two promoters have been involved in a slight altercation after footage showed Hearn shoving rival Shalom during the fiery face off between Eubank Jr and Benn, with ‘Next Gen’ going on to slap ‘The Destroyer’ in the face with an egg.

Over the last few months, Shalom – who represents Eubank Jr – and Hearn – who represents Benn – have thrown several verbal jabs at each other. Speaking to BOXRAW, reacting to what happened during the face off, Hearn said: “We are on good terms. I believe he (Shalom) didn’t know about it (the egg slap ),” before Shalom quickly chimed in, replying: “You know I didn’t know about it.” The Matchroom boss then clapped back: “No I didn’t because you’re a little snake.”

Given their rivalry, Eubank Jr was asked to share his thoughts on how a potential fight between the two promoters would play out in an interview with Ring Magazine. There was a slight twist, though. When quizzed on the topic, the 35-year-old boxer was hooked up to a lie detector. After a slight pause, Eubank Jr then backed his promoter.

“Yeah, I think if he catches him right with the perfect shot, I think he can put Eddie Hearn. down” The individual conducting the lie detector test was clearly left unconvinced and was seen shaking his head repeatedly before saying: “Sorry, Chris. You’re not telling the truth. You don’t want to upset Ben.” Clearly left red-faced by the result of the question, Eubank Jr said: “I tried Ben, I tried. I don’t know what you want me to do.”

Speaking ahead of the epic clash, Eubank Jr is confident he can get the job done on fight night despite all of the negative noise, but insists it’ll be a huge night for British boxing. “The fight will be one of a kind. It has never happened in boxing,” he said. “No two fighters have had fathers who were world champions and fought in massive fights 30-odd years ago with the entire country watching.

“Fighting me, a sworn enemy in a fight broadcast around the world that could be at Wembley in front of 90,000 people or in an arena in Saudi is a whole different animal. It will bring out a beast in him that I cannot take lightly. I think it is going to be savage, one of the best fights British boxing, world boxing has seen for quite some time because it’s real. This isn’t pretend.”
