A passenger jet came too close to Air Force One while en route to the UK, recent reports have revealed. The large Boeing 747 was flying above New York when a Spirit Airlines aircraft was observed on a similar flight path. Air Traffic controllers promptly instructed the pilots of the passenger plane to alter their course. Despite the proximity, the planes remained several miles apart and were not at risk of breaching safety protocols. However, Spirit Flight 1300, traveling from Fort Lauderdale to Boston, adjusted its direction after receiving a reminder from the controller to focus and refrain from distractions.
In the audio recording, the controller can be heard directing: “Spirit 1300, turn 20 degrees right immediately. Spirit Wings 1300, traffic is off your left wing by six or eight miles, 747.” The controller further advised to maintain vigilance towards the nearby aircraft.
