The attackers who gunned down a man in Costa del Sol are thought to have waited for the victim to finish a football game before they pounced.
The victim, who is believed to be British, was killed in a horrific street shooting in Spain on Monday evening. The crazed attack took place in the tourist hot spot Calahonda, which is situated between Marbella and Fuengirola.
Police are yet to find the perpetrators but believe there could have been two attackers behind the sickening crime. According to local media, they appeared to be watching the man before shooting him between eight to ten times at around 8.15pm.
Medics rushed to the scene but despite their best efforts, the victim was pronounced dead. Officials were said to have received reports about an abandoned vehicle nearby, which featured multiple weapons inside. The vehicle was spotted in flames.
The shooting happened on Don Jose de Orbaneja Street, close to a popular tennis and padelclub called Club del Sol as well as a holiday resort called Finca Naundrup.
According to sources close to the investigation, the victim was a 30-year-old man from Liverpool. The murder is being investigated by the Guardia Civil police force.
Police have not yet officially confirmed the nationality of the victim, partly because the post-mortem has not taken place.
Tourists and expats took to social media following the news. One Brit commented: “Apparently a guy was shot seven times. Police lockdown.” One Facebook user said on a local expat site: “It happened on the slip road down towards Finca Naundrup outside Club del Sol. My son was at the football pitch from 8pm when I dropped him off and is finally home now.”
They also commented on the police lockdown and continued: “No one is allowed to leave there yet. Police still there.” A third added: “I was playing padel at Finca Naundrup earlier. Glad I missed it.”
It remains unknown if the victim was an expat or a holidaymaker.
