Cricket Canada has taken immediate action to suspend its chief executive officer, Salman Khan, while ensuring he continues to receive full pay and benefits. The decision was made to safeguard the organization’s integrity and uphold procedural fairness, stated Cricket Canada president Amjad Bajwa. Khan, along with another individual, faced charges of theft and fraud over $5,000 related to their involvement with the Calgary and District Cricket League.
Despite Khan’s denial of the allegations as “completely false” in a social media post through the Alberta Cricket Association, the suspension was deemed necessary due to the negative impact associated with him. Bajwa highlighted the influence of the unresolved charges on the organization.
An independent special committee, in collaboration with Cricket Canada’s executive committee and external legal advisors, is conducting a thorough review, although the specifics of the review were not disclosed. Cricket Canada emphasized its unwavering commitment to its vision, mission, players, communities, and partners within the Canadian cricket network.
In a related development, Cricket Canada faced a suspension from the Canadian Safe Sport Program for failing to meet participant e-learning and consent requirements. However, the organization has since been reinstated after complying with the necessary standards as confirmed by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.
