Darts world championship semi-finalist handed 11-year ban for match fixing

Andy Jenkins has been handed a massive 11-year ban for match fixing. The former World Championship semi-finalist has also been ordered to pay a hefty fine of £17,580.

Jenkins was found guilty of fixing 12 Modus Super Series matches between 22 February 2022 and 5 July 2023 and also passing information on to bettors by a Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) disciplinary committee.

Jenkins had denied match-fixing but admitted placing 88 bets on matches. The ban, which has been backdated to November 2023, will prevent him from playing in or being involved in any way with any DRA event until 15 November 2034.

The 54-year-old, who reached the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship in 2007, losing to eventual winner Raymond van Barneveld, and has won 15 career titles, has until May 6 2025 to appeal the decision.

John Pierce, director of enforcement at the Gambling Commission, which worked with the DRA on the case, said: “This case sends a strong and unequivocal message to all sportspeople – if you fix matches, you are likely to be caught and face serious consequences.

“Betting customers in Britain deserve confidence that the markets they engage with are fair and free from corruption.

“Our sports betting intelligence unit will continue to work closely with partners such as the Darts Regulation Authority to identify and prevent match-fixing.”

Jenkins’ ban comes after Prakash Jiwa was hit with an eight-year ban for match-fixing.

Jiwa was found guilty of fixing four games and betting on the outcomes of others following an investigation assisted by The Gambling Commission’s Sports Betting Intelligence Unit. He has been hit with an eight-year ban from all tournaments, which means he will not be able to play again until November 6, 2031.

Jiwa was also ordered to pay a huge fine totalling £17,741.46
