Donald Glover has shared details about a recent health emergency that led him to cancel his tour last year. Initially referred to as an “ailment,” Glover revealed during a performance at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw music festival in Los Angeles that a doctor informed him he had experienced a stroke.
Addressing the audience, Glover, known by his stage name Childish Gambino, recounted experiencing severe head pain during a show in Louisiana, where despite impaired vision, he continued with the performance. Concerned, he sought medical attention in Houston, where the diagnosis of a stroke was delivered.
Following the health scare, Glover first postponed and eventually called off the remaining tour dates in September 2024 across the U.S., U.K., and Europe to prioritize his well-being. Acknowledging the seriousness of his health situation, Glover emphasized the need for a cancellation rather than rescheduling the dates.
Expressing regret over disappointing his fans, Glover mentioned his unfulfilled desire to visit Ireland and disclosed undergoing two surgeries to address a heart issue. Reflecting on the ordeal, he imparted a poignant message about embracing life and gratitude for the support from his audience.
The tour was intended to mark the end of Glover’s musical persona as Childish Gambino, in line with his previous announcement of retiring the alter ego following the release of his fifth studio album titled Bando Stone and the New World.
As of now, there has been no response from Glover’s representatives regarding the situation.
