Elon Musk lookalike speaks of mistaken identity after night out goes viral but says ‘it’s not a compliment’

A man who became an internet sensation after a night out in Scotland due to his striking resemblance to Elon Musk has shared how he is frequently mistaken for the billionaire entrepreneur.

Hugo One, a singer from Luxembourg, often finds himself being stopped by people who mistake him for the brains behind X and Tesla. However, the 28 year old doesn’t take much pleasure in the comparison.

During a recent reunion with friends in Aberdeen, a group of locals couldn’t help but shout “you’re Elon Musk” at him. The encounter was filmed, and the onlookers were left in disbelief that Hugo wasn’t the business tycoon.

According to Hugo, he gets approached about twice a month by strangers commenting on his uncanny resemblance to Musk, with some even bold enough to ask for a selfie, reports the Daily Record.

Musk, aged 53, serves as a senior advisor for the White House but is more famously recognised as the founder of SpaceX, product architect of Tesla, and owner of X, formerly known as Twitter. Despite the unwanted attention, Aberdeen Live reports that Hugo is content with his appearance and has no plans to change it.

The disco-soul singer from Luxembourg City commented: “They were the fifth group of people to stop me that night – I was exhausted. I don’t take it as a compliment to be compared to Elon because he’s not a nice person. He’s also not at all good looking.

“But I took it as a laugh because they were a nice friendly group of lads. Plus, it’s created some great traffic to my page and people are downloading my songs.”

Hugo, an English and French teacher in Berlin, first received comparisons to tech mogul Elon Musk back in 2018 after a student pointed out the resemblance. He’s used to being told he looks quite like Musk a few times each month and is relieved that it hasn’t led to any negative experiences.

During a recent road trip through Scotland with his uni mates, they swung by Aberdeen – where it all began for them. After a night out and being likened to Musk four times already, three more chaps mentioned the similarity.

“At this point, I was tired, and it had already happened four times before,” recalled Hugo. “But I took it in jest because you have to see the funny side.”

After sharing the video of these encounters on social media last Friday, it suddenly went viral, amassing over 1.5 million views, with many commenters affirming “that is Elon Musk.”

Hugo expressed surprise at the staggering response: “I thought it would get a fair few views but nothing of this scale. I woke up on Saturday and it had 70,000 views and now it has over 1.5 million. As long as people know I don’t align with Elon or his beliefs, I don’t mind. It probably won’t be the last time either.
