Former Apple Employee Changes Name to Avoid Internet Jest

-

Sam Sung, a former Apple employee, has shared that he changed his name to avoid becoming the subject of internet jests. The individual, now known as Sam Struan, gained online fame in 2012 due to a photo of his Apple store business card circulating online. After working at Apple in Glasgow, he relocated to Canada.

Following an incident where a customer at an Apple store in Vancouver noticed his name similarity to a rival tech company, Sam decided to rebrand himself to evade unwanted attention that could potentially impact his future career prospects. Transitioning to a successful career in recruitment, he selected the surname Struan, inspired by a beloved village in Scotland.

Reflecting on his decision, Sam expressed that he wanted to distance himself from the online joke that overshadowed his professional identity. Recognizing the influence of names on career opportunities, he believed that adopting a new identity was beneficial for his career trajectory. Despite initial fears and anxiety stemming from his sudden internet fame, Sam now wishes he had taken a more relaxed approach to the situation.

Recalling the viral moment and the overwhelming response he received, Sam admitted feeling terrified and anxious, leading him to keep a low profile to safeguard his employment. Looking back, he regrets not embracing the experience and enjoying the temporary fame without excessive worry about its impact on his work prospects.
