“Former PM Rishi Sunak Joins Sunday Times as Business Columnist”

-

Rishi Sunak, the former Prime Minister, has secured another position following his exit from No10, adding to his growing list of roles. Despite the setback of leading the Tories to their worst election outcome, Sunak, who continues to serve as the MP for Richmond and Northallerton, is actively seeking to regain prominence. He has recently been appointed as a weekly columnist for the Sunday Times newspaper, where he will contribute articles to the Business section in both print and online formats starting this weekend.

Described by the newspaper as an esteemed and respected personality, Sunak will cover diverse topics such as business, technology, politics, and the economy in his columns. Notably, he has also taken up advisory roles at tech giants Microsoft and Anthropic, in addition to joining Goldman Sachs as a senior adviser earlier this year, leveraging his unique insights on global politics and the economy.

With a reported net worth of £640 million alongside his wife Akshata Murty, Sunak has decided to donate the earnings from his new newspaper column to The Richmond Project, an educational charity they co-founded to assist children in enhancing their math skills. Furthermore, his appointment at the Sunday Times has received clearance from ACOBA, the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments, which advises former Ministers and senior Civil Servants on post-office appointments.

Expressing his excitement about the new role, Sunak stated, “As a long-time reader of The Sunday Times business pages, I’m honored to be joining a great team as a columnist. In an era of profound change, I’m really looking forward to a weekly conversation with readers about the forces reshaping the world economy, from global politics to technology.” Ben Taylor, the editor of The Sunday Times, also expressed delight in welcoming Sunak to the team, highlighting his extensive expertise and predicting that his columns will be a must-read for audiences navigating the complex business landscape.
