Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson experienced a shocking moment during the Mexican Grand Prix when he had to slow down to avoid colliding with two track marshals. The incident occurred on the third lap of the race at turn one, where the marshals were informed about debris on the track.
Unaware that Lawson had already pitted for a front wing change due to damage on the first lap, the marshals were waiting to clear the debris after all cars had passed. When Lawson re-entered the track and approached the first corner, he was surprised to see the marshals running across the track in front of him. He had to slow down abruptly to prevent a collision, expressing his shock and concern over the radio.
In response to the incident, the FIA spokesperson stated that an investigation was underway to understand the events leading up to the incident and the communication with the marshals. Race control had instructed the marshals to clear the debris after all cars had passed turn one, but the dispatch was canceled when Lawson pitted, and caution flags were displayed in the area.
Despite retiring from the race due to damage, Lawson expressed disbelief and concern over the dangerous situation he encountered. He emphasized the need for a thorough explanation from his Racing Bulls team regarding the marshals’ actions on the live track, emphasizing the importance of preventing such incidents in the future.
The Mexico City Grand Prix was ultimately won by Lando Norris, who now leads the championship with only four rounds remaining, narrowly ahead of his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who finished fifth.
