“French Woman Dies in Tragic Car Window Mishap”

-

A tragic incident involving a woman and her car has led to her untimely death, leaving her loved ones in shock and sorrow.

Bernadette Delmotte, aged 60, tragically passed away on 13 June in Bissy-sur-Fley, France, after becoming trapped in the automatic window of her Fiat 500, resulting in suffocation. Reports suggest that while cleaning her car, she accidentally triggered the window to close on her throat as she reached in to apply the handbrake, which she had forgotten to engage.

A close friend, Béatrice, recounted the harrowing event, stating that as the car began to roll backward, Bernadette attempted to intervene by throwing herself through the open window to halt its movement. Tragically, in her attempt to stop the car, she inadvertently activated the window control, causing the glass to rise and become lodged on her neck.

Concern arose when Bernadette failed to arrive for a planned dinner with friends, prompting them to visit her residence where they discovered her lifeless body. Described as a retired coach and training consultant, Bernadette’s unexpected demise shocked her brother François, who expressed disbelief and confusion upon learning of the tragic accident.

François, grieving the loss of his sister, has reached out to Fiat to address the circumstances surrounding her death, emphasizing a desire for awareness and prevention to avert similar tragedies. An autopsy confirmed Bernadette’s cause of death as asphyxiation, ruling her passing as accidental and devoid of any foul play.

This distressing incident bears resemblance to another tragic event in 2021, where a woman in Ukraine lost her life in a similar manner, getting her neck stuck in the window of her stationary BMW after her toddler inadvertently activated the automatic window control, leading to a fatal outcome.
