“Gianfranco Zola to Drive Francesco Molinari’s Ryder Cup Buggy”

-

Gianfranco Zola has taken on a unique responsibility at Bethpage for the upcoming Ryder Cup, where the Chelsea legend will be serving as Francesco Molinari’s designated buggy driver. Zola, aged 57, was spotted among the front row of a comprehensive player and support team photo ahead of the Ryder Cup, set to commence on Friday in New York. It has been revealed that the esteemed Italian footballer will be supporting Europe’s vice-captain from behind the wheel instead of on the football field.

Reports from Golf Digest confirm that Zola will be Molinari’s buggy driver, with the two having developed a friendship during their time associated with West Ham. Molinari, a devoted Hammers supporter since his move to England in 2009, will have Zola by his side during the Ryder Cup event.

Zola, who managed West Ham for nearly two years following his illustrious playing career, faced a challenging end to his tenure at the club when he was relieved of his duties after finishing narrowly above the relegation zone in the 2009-10 season.

Despite his background in football, Zola is no stranger to the world of golf, having participated in various pro-ams on the DP World Tour. He has also engaged in golfing events with former Premier League stars during the opening of the new golf course at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen.

Molinari will support Luke Donald, Team Europe’s captain, as his deputy during the Ryder Cup in New York this week. Expressing his admiration for Donald’s leadership, Molinari highlighted the captain’s dedication and influence on the team’s dynamics. The upcoming challenge at Bethpage is anticipated with enthusiasm, as Molinari looks forward to contributing to the team’s success.

Sky has introduced a discounted Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, offering savings of £336 and access to over 1,400 live matches across various leagues, including the Premier League and EFL.
