Millions of Gmail users are set to have the option to change their email address to a new one. Google had previously hinted at this update, and now it seems to be rolling out globally. According to a recent post on the Gmail blog page by Google, users can now switch their Google Account email ending in gmail.com to a different address also ending in gmail.com.
This change could be beneficial for users who wish to update their username or have experienced alterations in their circumstances. However, Google has emphasized an important note that the ability to modify the email address is gradually being made available to all users, and it may not be accessible to everyone at this time.
The new system will allow both the old and new email addresses to operate simultaneously, ensuring that any emails sent to the current Gmail address will be automatically forwarded to the new one. Google assures users that their account data will remain unaffected, including photos, messages, and emails associated with the original address.
To determine if you are eligible to switch to a new Gmail address without losing any data, follow these steps:
– Visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email on your computer and sign in if prompted.
– Click on Personal info in the top-left corner.
– Select Email, then Google Account email.
– Under “Google Account email,” click on Change Google Account email.
– If the option is not available, it may not be accessible to you yet.
– Enter the new username you desire, ensuring it has not been previously used.
– Click on Change email, then confirm by selecting Yes, change email.
– Proceed with the on-screen instructions.
Upon completion, the new Gmail address will become your primary account email, while the old address will serve as an alternate email.
