Hilaria Baldwin says she nearly divorced Alec and ‘took her rings off’ in bombshell memoir

Must read

Hilaria Baldwin has admitted she was “ready to walk away” from husband Alec Baldwin and “took her rings off” as they nearly divorced. The star has penned her memoir Manual Not Included and, in it, admits that she and Alec hit a rocky patch that was so bad they were ready to call time on their relationship.

In the book, Hilaria, 41, explains how Alec, 67, had been working away a lot in the time around the birth of their son Rafael in June 2015. Hilaria admitted that they “fought a lot” as Alec was travelling for work while she was left alone in New York caring for their daughter Carmen and their dogs.

She wrote in the book: “It really p***** me off, and I didn’t hesitate to tell him so. That year was probably the rockiest for us, and not just in terms of juggling a baby and a toddler.”

In excerpts viewed via The Sun she continued: “I was so focused on how I thought things should be, and Alec was so set in his ways. Neither one of us would budge. I took my rings off as a sign that I was potentially ready to walk.”

Hilaria claims that Alec was responding to emails and taking calls while she was giving birth to Rafael, who arrived prematurely, and that he went back to work straight after the baby arrived which she found “disrespectful.” But the pair decided to work on their marriage rather than breaking up and, on their fifth wedding anniversary in 2017, they renewed their vows.

Hilaria’s memoir – Manual Not Included – sees her writing about “the relatable, hard-earned insights she’s gained from her experiences as an individual, a partner, and a parent – from feeling empowered, to having a fulfilling relationship, to being as good a mother as possible, all while still being a work in progress.”

A synopsis of the book reads: “After meeting her husband, actor Alec Baldwin, Hilaria found joy and purpose entering the public eye, where she sought to build community and connection with others. She also faced the challenges of the uglier, more toxic parts of the spotlight, living under a warped magnifying glass.

“Through the ups and downs, Hilaria leaned into wisdom and support offered by others, learning that optimism, kindness, and a sense of humor can put life into perspective. And additionally learning that we are not alone, that we are more alike than we are different.

“Within chapters about love, motherhood, and friendship, Hilaria offers up her candid stories around common themes facing women—from feeling like you’re too much and also not enough, to grappling with the expectation to be a ‘good girl,’ and to striving for unattainable perfection.

“While there is no one right way to live, by sharing what we’ve learned along the way, with compassion and without judgment, we can each create our own perfectly imperfect manual.”

Manual Not Included is scheduled for release on May 6.
