Charlotte Jordan is saying a fond farewell to Coronation Street as she departs from the cobbles after an eventful nearly five-year stint playing Daisy Midgeley. Yet, it seems she won’t be straying too far from the world of soaps.
Daisy, who is Jenny Connor’s stepdaughter, made her Weatherfield entrance in 2020. Coming from a strained relationship with her mother, Daisy moved into the pub and reconnected with Jenny after years apart.
However, she soon stirred trouble by pushing for Jenny’s split from her then-husband, Johnny Connor and was instrumental in causing the breakup between Ryan Connor and Alya Nazir. Daisy found herself at the heart of a blackmail scheme and endured a terrifying ordeal when she and Ryan were targeted in an acid attack by stalker Justin Rutherford.
She also schemed her way into becoming co-owner of the Rovers Return alongside Jenny and was embroiled in a paternity drama after falling pregnant, only to suffer the heartbreaking loss of her baby in a hit-and-run incident, reports the Manchester Evening News.
But now, Daisy has chosen to bid farewell to Weatherfield, with her last episode airing on Friday, 2 May. Announcing her departure in January, the actress expressed: “My time at Coronation Street is something I’ll always cherish.”
She added: “After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it’s time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities. It’s been a privilege to be part of a wonderful institution with even more wonderful colleagues who have taught me so much.”
Fans may recognise the 30 year old as a familiar face on Corrie, but before she waltzed onto the cobbles towards the end of 2020, she was basking in Netflix glory. She shone as Gaby Grant in the series Free Rein for two seasons.
Rewinding to her early beginnings, Charlotte actually broke into the acting world with an episode of The Bill in 2007, where she went by the name of Charlie Evans. Under this alias, she also took on Serena in the Nickelodeon series Summer in Transylvania between 2011 and 2012.
Fast forward to 2016, she embraced the name of Charlotte Jordan, venturing into the film world with Angel of Decay and dropping by BBC’s Casualty. Afterwards, she hopped into the Free Rein saddle before ultimately landing on Corrie.
But Charlotte’s journey could have led her down a pop star path instead. Speaking with Metro, Charlotte revealed: “When I was 15 and in my last year at school, I auditioned for a band that was being created by Simon Fuller and Geri Halliwell.
“It was a development deal, which means we spent a lot of time bonding, doing choreography and recording songs in the studio – sometimes cool songs, sometimes naff songs. You just try to find your sound.
“When they felt like we’d exhausted all options as a group, I was offered a solo deal. I did that for another two years and then, as I got older, I realised that acting was what I actually wanted to do and decided to go back to it. Just because you can sing, doesn’t necessarily mean you should be a singer.”
Interestingly, fans have often been taken aback by Charlotte’s authentic accent. Just prior to her final scenes on Corrie, she made an appearance on This Morning to discuss her departure, leaving viewers surprised not to hear a northern accent, as she actually hails from Cobham, Surrey.
One commented on X, formerly Twitter: “I didn’t expect Daisy to sound like that! Great northern accent.” A second asked: “Her voice?!” A third noted: “She suits the Manc accent that she acts with.”
Since her Corrie debut, Charlotte has amassed a collection of prestigious awards. At the British Soap Awards 2023, she received the Best Dramatic Performance award and was also nominated for Best Leading Performer.
Additionally, she secured not one but two wins at the Royal Television Society’s (RTS) North West Awards, taking home the Best Performance in a Continuing Drama Award, while Coronation Street won the Best Continuing Drama Storyline award for Daisy’s stalking plot.
Meanwhile, Charlotte recently revealed her plans post-Corrie during an appearance on This Morning. “I do feel excited; it’s a fresh start,” she expressed. “I feel like I’ve done a lot of soapy things. I’ve done the checklist. [Coronation Street] has been really good to me, and it just feels like time for a new beginning.”
This Morning’s resident soap guru Sharon Marshall then chimed in with: “But next, The Archers?” Charlotte seemed slightly reserved as she confirmed this would indeed be her next venture, although she couldn’t divulge too many details.
“Yes, I am. I am joining The Archers, which is really fun,” she confirmed. “I start very soon, I can’t say very much about it, but the character will ruffle some feathers. That’s what I can say.”
