“Leylah Fernandez Claims Fourth WTA Title in Dominant Fashion”

Leylah Fernandez of Canada clinched her fourth WTA title by defeating Russian player Anna Kalinskaya with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-2 at the Citi Open tournament held on hardcourt on Sunday. This victory marked Fernandez’s fourth career WTA title, with her previous win dating back to October 2023 in Hong Kong. Over a year ago, she was a runner-up to Daria Kasatkina at the WTA 500 Eastbourne event.

Fernandez, hailing from Laval, Quebec, capitalized on four out of six break-point opportunities, securing a 2 for 3 conversion rate in each set during the one-hour, nine-minute match. She delivered two aces and four double faults while maintaining an impressive 75% first-serve point success rate.

In contrast, Kalinskaya struggled to gain momentum, only managing one break-point chance which she failed to capitalize on, and winning just 61.5% of her first-serve points. Fernandez’s path to the title included a grueling three-hour, 12-minute semifinal battle against Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan the previous day.
