Inter Miami has been eager for Messi to renew his contract, partly because they want him to be part of the team when the new stadium close to Miami International Airport opens next year.
The club has been actively selling ticket packages and accepting seat deposits for the upcoming stadium, and having Messi on the team is seen as a significant draw for fans. Retaining Messi could further boost the team’s global popularity, especially with the prospect of him playing for Inter Miami during the 2026 World Cup on American soil.
Messi, 38, has been a standout performer for Inter Miami, scoring 20 goals and providing 11 assists in Major League Soccer matches this season, making him the second-highest goal scorer in the league. Despite missing several games due to injuries and national team commitments, Messi was named the MLS MVP last season.
