London Marathon runner gets tube back home and something special happens

Must read

People have been left feeling emotional after spotting the heartwarming moment a London Marathon runner got on the tube after his race – and something incredible happened.

Approximately 56,000 people – with some travelling from around the world – faced the ultimate fitness challenge yesterday after making their way to Greenwich to run 26.2 miles across London. You have to be accepted to enter the physically and mentally challenging race, which culminates with runners crossing the finish line outside Buckingham Palace.

Not only is the day incredible for those taking part, but as crowds of people line up to wave at their loved ones with signs and chants to cheer them on, it can also be a fantastic day for positivity and bringing people together. This is heartwarming to see in comparison to the day-to-day hustle and bustle of the capital city, where people are rushing from place to place and often don’t stop to smile or say hello to strangers.

A wonderful video has gone viral after showing the moment marathon runner Liam was going down to the London Underground and was meat with applause and cheers from hundreds of people.

The delighted dad-of-two had a beaming smile as he was on an escalator wearing his medal, going down to the tube. As people were going up an escalator on the opposite site, they clapped and woo-ed after spotting his dazzling medal.

Liam’s partner shared the video on TikTok, wihch has raked in more than 1.4million views. She wrote: “POV: You’ve just finished the London Marathon and everyone’s cheering you.”

“The energy of the spectators is something else! Unbelievably proud of you,” she added. People rushed to comment as one wrote: “Goosebumps. This is adorable. Congrats Liam.”

“London Marathon just hits differently, congratulations!,” another added. “I would have bawled the whole way down that escalator,” commented one other. “The atmosphere at the London Marathon is unmatched,” added one other.

One other said: “I was at London Bridge underground yesterday and it was a pleasure to see all these amazing people come through. As the runners had free travel I would open the gate and congratulate each and every one of them. Amazing people.”

But many said they wish it was a more common occurrence. One said: “Wish London had this energy more often! Well done!”

One other commented: “This had me sobbing. Normally the tube is a no eye contact no communication zone. Truly heart warming.”

Meanwhile, another added: “And then tomorrow everyone will go back to being miserable! London would be SO much nicer if it was like this every day.”
