Loose Women star halts show for emotional Freddie Flintoff message

Must read

Loose Women presenter Jane Moore has sent out a message of support to Freddie Flintoff’s wife Rachael ahead of his upcoming Disney+ documentary. The new film details Freddie’s horrific injuries after his Top Gear crash back in 2022, which left him with complex facial wounds and broken ribs.

On today’s Loose Women, the panel spoke about Freddie and Rachael’s ordeal, with host Jane closing the segment by sending well-wishes to the cricketer’s wife. “Obviously, Freddie has been through a lot but also you can see that his wife Rachael has as well so Rachael, if you’re watching, we’re sending our love and support to you,” Jane said.

In Flintoff, which arrives on Disney+ tomorrow, Freddie opens up about the Top Gear crash at Dunsfold test track in 2022 that left him fearing that his face had “come off”. He says in the film: “I remember everything. I think about it now, back in the car, it were a three wheeler, a reinforcement windscreen and a bar covering half me back. So I’m exposed.

“We’re probably doing about 40 or 45, they were showing me how to get the car going sideways, and the wheel came up at the front.”

He adds that his face was dragged against the tarmac as the car flipped over, with his surgeon revealing that he suffered some of the worst injuries he’s ever seen. “His injuries, over the past 20 years of seeing Maxillofacial trauma, I would probably put in the top five,” Freddie’s surgeon Jahrad Haq said.

“He had a mixture of hard tissue and soft tissue injuries. Broken teeth, lost teeth, elements of the upper jaw bone that were also fractured and displaced.

“His soft tissue injuries were also complex. He had lost a really significant portion of his upper lip, the skin and some of the underlying muscle and also his lower lip.”

Freddie’s wife Rachael, who he married in 2005, contributes to the documentary, revealing that she fought back tears when visiting him in hospital.

“When I did see him, I walked in the room, and he was just in the bed, and he was bandaged up. Like his eyes, I’ve never seen someone so scared in their eyes. And he just stared at me, and I just think he was looking at me to know how bad he was,” she said.

“So to be fair, I totally pulled myself together, and I just didn’t cry. I didn’t, I just said, ‘it’s fine. You’re gonna be okay. I can’t believe how amazing you look.'”

She adds that she had to warn their kids, Rocky, 17, Corey, 19, and Holly, 20, not to react when they saw him for the first time after the crash. “I did call the kids, and I did say to them, ‘you’ve just got to be as strong as you’ve ever been. Your dad does look different at the moment. It’s gonna get better, but I don’t want you to look shocked and horrified, because that’s gonna knock him.'”

“And that was hard, but Andy doesn’t know I’ve ever done that. I was so grateful to all those people, I still had a husband, the kids still had their dad.”
