Love Island star suffers cruel abuse after sharing video of her being harassed while on holiday

Must read

A former Love Island star has been mocked by cruel trolls online after she opened up on her recent holiday ordeal. Summer Botwe, who starred on season eight of the hit ITV2 dating series in 2022, took to Instagram to showcase the latest hate she had received on her recent holiday snaps.

Taking to her Stories, Summer shared snippets of the vile messages she had received, including people labelling her an “attention seeking b****”. In the initial post, Summer was seen lying on a beach in a black two-piece bikini when a passer-by disturbed her day.

The unnamed man started singing to her as she laughed uncomfortably after he said she looked like “my favourite singer, Tyla.” On the upload, Summer wrote: “I was just trying to enjoy the peace and quiet on the beach and someone’s uncle ruined it. I cut the video but he was doing too much u was so uncomfortable. I HATE MEN.”

She added: “I even got my kindle out and ignored him and he kept pressing the convo in the end I had to tell him to go away because I was actually scared asking if I’m alone that’s I’m sexy etc EWWW.”

However, she was subjected to cruel abuse and nasty DMs when Instagram page, The Shade Borough, re-shared the upload on the platform. Sharing her video of her scary experience, the Instagram page wrote: “Someone’s uncle really pulled up to Love Island’s Summer Botwe on the beach dropping Tyla ‘make me sweat, make me water’ bars…”

The reality star later shared screenshots of cruel messages she’d received after sharing her terrifying experience. One user simply messaged her saying: “C***”, while another called her an “attention seeking b***h”. However, the trolling comments weren’t the only type of message she got as one follower shared solidarity with Summer.

A DM from one user, shared by Summer on her Instagram story, read: “Girly just saw your post on a blog. You had every right to post!! It’s only dumba** people who don’t understand. I HATE MEN everywhere, everyday and every second of the day. & I’ll say it with my chest every time, so will every woman I know! Only the pick mes and insecure men have a problem with it. You take care!”

Summer later felt obliged to defend herself and said in the comments: “btw i posted this also as awareness for women who solo travel, this was an older man who tried to approach me in an inappropriate manner and began asking me very concerning questions and making statements making me very uncomfortable after i cut the recording. For all i know this man could’ve been targeting me for trafficking or something like??

“I was very much uncomfortable and wanted to be left alone and he was stood next to for 10+ minutes trying to force a conversation,” she wrote. “Yes the singing may be funny but the interaction as a whole was very uncomfortable, stay safe if you’re solo travelling ladies.”

However, it led to more hate from users on the page. One slammed: “So because he was talkin to u – maybe in an uncomfortable way – You hate men & he’s trying to traffic you ???.. come on.. and why did you even have to post it ???”

Some did however jump to her defence. One user replied: “People are just purposely being dense! They understand exactly what you mean! No woman should have to over explain why an interaction with a man made them uncomfortable smh!.”

Another added: “Women experience unwarranted uncomfortable situations with men all the time and u lot are focusing on the “hate men” part…”
