Motorists are stuck in long queues of traffic after a police incident shut one of the UK’s major road networks.
Police have closed the clockwise route of the M25 owing to an earlier incident. National Highways revealed on X it is a “police led incident”, between junction 25 for Waltham Cross and junction 26 for Waltham Abbey. The temporary closure has caused large tailback stretching at least four miles, trapping thousands of drivers in the area.
National Highways said on X: “The M25 in Hertfordshire is closed clockwise between J25 (Waltham Cross) and J26 (Waltham Abbey) due to a Police led incident. Emergency services are in attendance.
“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
The closure has been described as a “police led incident” and for motorists to expect delays. Some reports suggest the incident was a medical emergency.
