LaSalle police in Ontario reported that an officer made a surprising discovery early Wednesday when they found a man from the United States attempting to illegally enter Canada using a kayak. The incident took place around 1 a.m. ET while the officer was conducting checks on commercial properties along Front Road, situated near the Detroit River. The officer noticed the man with a kayak and two backpacks at the river’s edge behind a business.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the man was indeed trying to enter Canada unlawfully. The 51-year-old individual from the U.S. was apprehended by the police and handed over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for further inquiry. The RCMP, responsible for border matters outside official entry points, did not provide an immediate comment.

LaSalle Police Chief Michael Pearce commended the officer’s actions, stating that the incident highlighted the positive outcomes of proactive policing. Pearce emphasized the significance of the officer’s unexpected discovery during a routine property check, underscoring the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts.
