Marvel director’s latest movie is an ‘intense’ supernatural thriller being called ‘the best film of the year’

Must read

Don’t miss the chance to catch one of this year’s top films and a standout horror flick of the 2020s, currently showing in cinemas.

This captivating supernatural saga springs from the creative mind behind some of the most acclaimed superhero movies of the 21st Century.

Sinners, featuring Michael B Jordan in a reunion with Black Panther and Creed director Ryan Coogler, promises an unforgettable cinematic journey.

Jordan takes on dual roles as twin gangsters Smoke and Stack, who return to their roots in the Jim Crow South to seek redemption before a malevolent force descends.

The film also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, and Wunmi Mosaku, and introduces Miles Caton. This suspenseful, music-infused horror gem is sure to keep you riveted, reports the Mirror US.

With a stellar 99 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it has garnered rave reviews from critics.

Empire awarded the film four stars, commenting: “It’s a lot to chew on – literally, in the end – and some characters feel underserved by the time we reach the final rush of blood, teeth and fire. Then again, such a wildly original, defiantly weird and gorgeously made film can hardly be expected to follow a rulebook.

“An idiosyncratic, thematically dense twist on the vampire myth that’s oddly paced but beautifully played. One to sink your teeth into.”

Screen Rant heaped praise on Sinners, describing it as “exquisite” and “already one of the best films of the year”.

Their review gushed with admiration: “The fact that writer-director Ryan Coogler’s Sinners exists feels like a miracle in this era of Hollywood. That it is so astonishingly good and thematically layered gives me hope for the future of filmmaking.

“Ultimately, Coogler’s latest is already one of my favorite films of the year and should be counted among the best of 2025.

“I was taken to another place watching Sinners, and I have no doubt audiences will walk away having been moved and simultaneously entertained by this gripping, multifaceted story that deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible and, ideally, more than once.”

Letterboxd users are similarly effusive, with one particularly impressed viewer stating: “It is simple enough to say a movie is suspenseful, but how do you quantify how suspenseful it is? Here is one way.

“Ryan Coogler’s new film Sinners generates so much suspense – and then sustains it for so long – that at one particularly anxious point I heard a small snap from my seat.

“I looked down and realized I had tensed up and squeezed my notebook so hard that I cracked its back cover. So yeah, Sinners is pretty intense.”

Another fan couldn’t contain their excitement: “This is a film that will remind you WHY YOU LOVE MOVIES!!

“Sinners is an unforgettable cinematic odyssey, an experience that demands to be felt on the big screen. Mesmerizing, intense, and electrifying, this is Ryan Coogler’s true masterpiece. One of the decade’s finest, and a film that will leave you absolutely speechless.

“I’m f***ing blown away and as much as I Love what Coogler has done with the MCU I hope he continues to just make original films. A shot of adrenaline for filmmaking.”

Sinners is in cinemas now.
