-

Raul Malo, the lead singer of the Mavericks, has updated fans on his health status, revealing a concerning development in his battle against cancer. In a recent social media post, the 60-year-old musician disclosed that he has been dealing with colon cancer since last year, undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy and surgery.

In his latest Instagram update, the Grammy Award winner informed followers that he has been diagnosed with LMD, which signifies leptomeningeal disease, a condition where cancer spreads to the brain and spinal cord tissues. Alongside a video of himself playing the guitar, Raul shared, “As it goes with cancer, it’s a very unpredictable and indiscriminate disease.”

Expressing his determination to combat the new challenge, he stated, “Treatment for this is radiation, which I will start tomorrow. We will probably jump into some chemo, and are even looking at alternative therapies.” Raul regretfully announced the cancellation of all upcoming shows but assured fans of upcoming projects and music releases.

Acknowledging the support he has received, Raul expressed gratitude to his family, band members, and fans, emphasizing that he is not facing this battle alone. Despite uncertainties about the future, he remains optimistic and determined to fight through the treatments, appreciating the outpouring of love and well wishes from his supporters.

Encouraging compassion and understanding, Raul urged fans to seek kindness in humanity amidst challenging times. He concluded by promising to keep everyone updated on his health journey, including his scheduled hernia surgery in January.
