As the Edmonton Oilers kick off training camp, the status of Connor McDavid’s contract remains uncertain. The team’s star captain is in the final year of his $100 million deal and has the option to sign an extension since July 1. McDavid has emphasized his intention to carefully consider his future decisions.
General Manager Stan Bowman has engaged in discussions with McDavid regarding the upcoming season and the team’s long-term strategy. Bowman expressed optimism about securing McDavid’s services, highlighting the player’s aspiration to win the Stanley Cup with the Oilers following their recent losses to Florida.
Contrary to rumors, the Oilers will not be pursuing Carter Hart, a former Philadelphia goalie from Sherwood Park, Alberta, despite the team’s rumored interest in upgrading the goalie position. Hart and four other players were recently cleared of sexual assault charges from an incident in London, Ontario, in 2018, when they represented Canada’s world junior team.
Following the NHL’s reinstatement of the players, they will be eligible to sign contracts on October 15 and participate in games starting December 1.
