“Meet Pearl: World’s Oldest Chicken Defies Odds”

-

Pearl, the world’s oldest chicken, has faced numerous challenges throughout her life. From surviving a raccoon attack that left her with a broken leg to enduring chicken pox and pneumonia, Pearl has persevered despite her struggles. Currently residing in Little Elm, Texas, with her owner Sonya Hull, Pearl, at 14 years old, holds the title of the oldest living chicken according to Guinness World Records, although Hull admits she might be the oldest whose paperwork was properly submitted.

Despite her age and health issues, Pearl remains spirited and unfazed by her fame. Hull, who hatched Pearl herself, describes her as a runt from the start, always at the bottom of the pecking order among the other hens. Due to their hostility towards Pearl, the family decided to bring her inside the house to live out her golden years in comfort.

Pearl now spends her days in Hull’s laundry room, often accompanied by her favorite companion, a mop. Although mobility is a challenge for Pearl, she finds joy in dancing for cherry tomatoes and grapes each morning. Her love for life is evident as she relishes her time outdoors, digging for slugs under careful supervision.

Living indoors and receiving special care seem to be the secret to Pearl’s longevity, as seen in her predecessor Peanut, who lived to the age of 21 in a pampered pet life before passing away in 2023. Pearl’s contentment is evident in her daily routines and interactions with Hull’s family, who consider her a beloved member. Despite her age, Pearl even surprised everyone by laying an egg recently, a rare occurrence in her advanced years.
