A vehicle owned by Erin Patterson, an Australian convicted of murder, was briefly advertised for sale on Facebook before being removed. Patterson was recently given a life sentence for killing three family members and attempting to murder another using a poisoned beef Wellington.
The red 2023 MG SUV belonging to Patterson was listed on Melbourne’s Facebook Marketplace for AUD18,500 (£9,037), emphasizing its excellent condition and low mileage of 22,000km.
The advertisement, posted by Ali Prior, Patterson’s power of attorney, highlighted the car’s great performance and like-new feel. Prior clarified that selling the car was part of her responsibilities and not related to Patterson’s criminal conviction.
During the trial, CCTV footage showed Patterson driving the MG to dispose of evidence related to the poisoning incident, underscoring her guilt. Patterson was sentenced to life in prison without parole for at least 33 years due to the severity of her crimes.
Patterson’s victims were her parents-in-law and her sister-in-law, who died after consuming the toxic meal she served. Patterson, a mother of two, continues to deny her involvement, claiming the poisonous mushrooms were added accidentally. She received multiple life sentences for the murders and attempted murder.
The judge condemned Patterson’s actions, stating that she not only caused immense suffering to her victims and their families but also betrayed the trust of those who had been kind to her over the years. Despite offering forgiveness, one survivor expressed disappointment in Patterson’s disregard for their lives and the tragedy caused by her actions.
