“Netflix to Stop Working on Older Amazon Fire TV Devices”

-

If you currently own an older Fire TV Stick connected to your TV, it’s time to think about upgrading to a newer model. A recent announcement from PC Welt reveals that some older Amazon Fire TV devices will no longer support a popular streaming service, impacting the viewing of various popular shows, movies, and series.

Starting in June, Netflix will no longer be accessible on three specific Amazon devices. The affected models include the Amazon Fire TV Stick (2014), Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa voice remote (2014), and Amazon Fire TV (2014).

To continue enjoying Netflix content, owners of the affected devices will need to consider purchasing a more modern option like the Fire TV Stick 4K Max or Fire TV Stick 4K. The reason behind this change remains undisclosed by Amazon, but PC Welt suggests it may be related to the devices’ lack of support for the AV1 codec used by Netflix for streaming higher-quality content.

Customers on a Premium Netflix plan may lose access to features like 4K resolution on these older Fire TV models due to compatibility issues. As a result, Netflix has opted to discontinue support for these devices to ensure users receive the full benefits of their premium subscriptions.

To identify your Fire TV device, go to Settings > My Fire TV > About on your Fire TV. If your device matches any of the following models and you are a Netflix enthusiast, it’s advisable to upgrade:

– Amazon Fire TV Stick (2014)
– Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa voice remote (2014)
– Amazon Fire TV (2014)
