A restaurant in Niagara has achieved the prestigious honor of being just the second establishment in Canada to be awarded a second Michelin star. Pearl Morissette restaurant, located in Jordan Station, Lincoln, Ontario, has joined Quebec City’s Tanière as the only two Michelin-starred restaurants in the country. Canada currently has 34 one-star Michelin restaurants and no three-star establishments, according to the official Michelin website.
Eric Robertson, the co-owner and chef of Restaurant Pearl Morissette, expressed enthusiasm about Canadian ingredients being showcased in these top-notch restaurants. Michelin recently announced the star during the unveiling of its latest guide, describing Pearl Morissette as a “powerhouse” and commending its tasting menu and wine pairings.
Michelin inspectors assess restaurants based on five key criteria, including the quality of ingredients, mastery of flavors and cooking techniques, chef’s personality in the cuisine, flavor harmony, and consistency across visits. Pearl Morissette, situated within a winery of the same name, exclusively uses locally-sourced seasonal ingredients from Niagara farms and lakes. The restaurant even grows some of its own produce on-site, emphasizing the value of proximity in culinary creations.
The restaurant’s interior features floor-to-ceiling windows offering a view of their vegetable farm, greenhouse, vineyard, apiary, and livestock pastures. Robertson aims to educate guests about the region’s agriculture and hopes the experience will inspire them to support local farmers and explore the culinary richness of Ontario and Canada.
In a statement shared on Instagram, the restaurant expressed gratitude to its team, suppliers, and guests for their support. Pearl Morissette previously received its first Michelin star last year and was recognized as the top restaurant on Canada’s Best 100 Restaurants List for 2025 earlier this year.
Robertson, originally from Brantford, Ontario, gained culinary experience in European restaurants in Belgium, Sweden, and France before teaming up with Toronto-born chef Daniel Hadida to establish the acclaimed restaurant in its eighth year in November.
