Nine-Year-Old Canadian Go-Karting Pro Headed to Bahrain

-

Last weekend, a young go-karting talent from Lumsden, Saskatchewan, emerged victorious as the Canada Final Title holder. Competing at the Max Karting Group Canada Final near Edmonton, the nine-year-old driver consistently secured a top-three position throughout the three-day event, securing a spot to represent Team Canada.

Jack Klym, excited about his achievement, shared his feelings, describing the experience as overwhelming and surreal. He expressed gratitude for the support and congratulatory messages he received, emphasizing the joy of earning a ticket to Bahrain for the upcoming Rotax Grand Finals in November.

At the Bahrain International Karting Circuit, Klym will face off against 400 drivers from 60 countries across eight categories. Competing in the Micro Max division, he will challenge elite racers aged seven to 10 from around the globe.

Reflecting on his journey, Klym recalled his introduction to racing at the South Sask. Kart Club three years ago, noting that his interest stemmed from a transition from dirt bikes to go-karting, which he found both cooler and safer. With his father initially involved in karting, Klym humorously mentioned that his dad retired from racing once he started surpassing him on the track.

Throughout his racing career, Klym has received guidance from various trainers, including Scott Campbell, a respected figure in Canadian motorsports. As a Canadian Motorsports Hall of Famer with multiple world go-karting championship appearances, Campbell emphasized the importance of enjoying the experience and maintaining a positive mindset for optimal performance.

Klym’s upcoming participation in the Rotax Grand Finals marks a significant milestone as the first representative from Saskatchewan to compete on the global stage since 2018.
