Nine-year-old golf sensation Connor Hanska, hailing from Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation, is gearing up to compete against elite junior golfers worldwide in a prestigious tournament in Northern Ireland. The 2025 Champion of Champions World Championship will host over 250 top golfers from 40 countries at the renowned Lough Erne Resort Golf Course in Enniskillen, situated approximately 172 kilometers northwest of Dublin, from July 29-31.
At the tournament, Connor will showcase his skills on two championship courses at the resort, including an 18-hole course designed by Sir Nick Faldo, a six-time major golf champion. Notably, golf star Rory McIlroy also has connections to this course.
Despite residing in western Manitoba, Connor, a member of Whitefish Lake First Nation in Alberta, earned his spot in the tournament through the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour. His qualification for the 2025 Champion of Champions tournament was a culmination of various competitions throughout the 2024 season.
Expressing his anticipation for the tournament, Connor highlighted its significance as one of the premier global golf events. The youngest of six siblings, Connor receives guidance from his brother Bryce, who coaches him in refining his golf techniques. Additionally, his father, Doug Hanska, manages a TikTok account named “Hanska Golf,” showcasing Connor’s progress and swing at tournaments.
Doug Hanska expressed his lack of surprise at Connor’s achievements, attributing his early start in golf to his natural talent and dedication. Friends and observers have also recognized Connor’s potential in the sport, likening him to a future golf legend like Tiger Woods.
Connor’s mother, Destiny Jackson, acknowledged his exceptional golf abilities and strong mindset, emphasizing his consistent practice routine as a testament to his determination. Golf Manitoba’s Director of Player Development, Sean Murray, commended Connor’s impressive skills on the course, praising his technique and swing mechanics as exceptional.
In gratitude to his supporters and sponsors on his journey to the Champion of Champions Tournament, Connor humbly thanked them for their unwavering encouragement and support.
