-

Hundreds of mourners gathered solemnly today to bid farewell to the late Mark, Louise, and Evan O’Connor, a beloved family tragically murdered in their home in Co Louth last week. The bodies of Mark, 54, Louise, 56, and Evan, 27, were discovered last Monday at their residence near Tallanstown, where they had all suffered violent deaths, as confirmed in Drogheda District Court. Robert O’Connor, 31, the son and brother of the deceased, hailing from Drumgowna, Louth Village, has been charged with their murders.

The Funeral Mass for the O’Connor family took place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dundalk, presided over by Fr. Gerry Campbell and other clergy members. Mourners were requested to wear mismatched socks in honor of Evan’s unique style and were encouraged to contribute to The Hub Praxis Care Drogheda and Drogheda ABACAS School, organizations that held significance for the O’Connor family.

During the service, a guard of honor was provided for the O’Connor family hearses by members of the North East Runners AC, highlighting Mark’s active involvement in the local running club. Cian, the surviving son of the couple, emotionally paid tribute to his parents during the ceremony, expressing the profound impact they had on his life and those around them.

Cian fondly reminisced about his mother, Louise, describing her as a warm and compassionate individual who had a deep love for others. He shared touching anecdotes about her selfless nature and her plans to aid the elderly in Africa for her 60th birthday. Additionally, he praised his father, Mark, for his sacrifices in caring for Evan and his dedication to the running community, portraying Evan as a source of joy and brightness in their lives.

As the congregation mourned, various tributes were offered, symbolizing the unique qualities and passions of each family member. Fr. Campbell, in his homily, reflected on the profound impact the O’Connor family had on their community and the love they shared with those around them. The service concluded with heartfelt words honoring the memory of Mark, Louise, and Evan, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
