Maher El-Masri, a Palestinian-Canadian in Windsor with family in Gaza, expressed the overwhelming suffering experienced by both communities. He highlighted the dire conditions, including limited access to food and exorbitant prices, with basic necessities like bread becoming unaffordable. El-Masri emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian aid to prevent further deterioration.

El-Masri and other advocates feel betrayed by Canada’s involvement in supplying military equipment amid the humanitarian crisis. Bilal Rafiq, from the Palestinian Solidarity Group in Windsor, emphasized the need for accountability and immediate action to address the crisis in Gaza.
Canada’s announcement of plans to recognize a Palestinian state in September, contingent on specific reforms, has drawn mixed reactions.
