“Passengers Stop Impaired Limousine Driver on Ontario Highway”

-

A limousine driver in Hamilton is facing criminal charges after passengers intervened to ensure their safety by making him pull over on a highway, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Burlington. The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on July 11, with the limo parked on the side of the Toronto-bound Queen Elizabeth Way near Fifty Road when OPP officers arrived.

The passengers, concerned about the driver’s condition, took action to stop the vehicle and confiscated the keys, suspecting the driver was impaired, as per the OPP’s statement released on Tuesday. Another driver also alerted authorities about the erratic driving of the limousine.

Subsequently, the OPP arrested the 64-year-old Toronto driver and transported him to the Niagara OPP detachment for sobriety tests. The driver is facing charges including operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs, exceeding the legal blood alcohol limit, and reckless driving.

Details regarding the driver’s employment with a specific company or limousine service were not disclosed by the police. The OPP urges the public to report any instances of suspected impaired driving by contacting 911 promptly.
