“Poland Issues Stern Warning to Russian Fighter Jets”

-

Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, has issued a stern warning that Russian fighter jets entering Polish territory will be shot down without hesitation. Tusk emphasized the zero-tolerance policy during a recent press conference. This statement comes after a series of incidents where Russian drones or warplanes breached the airspace of Poland, Romania, and Estonia. Last Friday, three Russian MiG-31 jets lingered in Estonian airspace for nearly 12 minutes before being intercepted by NATO jets.

The unauthorized entry of the MIG-31 jets into a restricted area without NATO permission on Friday was perceived as a significant escalation by Russian President Vladimir Putin. These Russian aircraft reportedly flew over the Vaindloo Island area and intruded into Estonian airspace for 12 minutes, without engaging in radio communication with local air traffic controllers or activating their transponders.

Estonian officials strongly condemned the violation, labeling it as “unprecedentedly brutal.” NATO confirmed the interception of the Russian jets and criticized Russia’s reckless behavior. Tusk, in a press conference, emphasized the importance of solidarity among Poland’s NATO allies in responding to such incursions to ensure they are not left isolated in times of heightened conflict.

Following the airspace violation in Estonia, Prime Minister Kristen Michal mentioned the possibility of invoking NATO’s Article 4 for discussions among allies regarding threats to territorial security. Estonia’s Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, summoned Russian diplomats in response to the escalating border incidents. Tsahkna emphasized the need for swift reinforcement of political and economic pressure against Russia’s increasing border provocations and aggression.
