At a critical juncture, scandal can no longer be dismissed as mere headlines or undue fixation.
For Prince Andrew, this moment has reemerged with full force, dispelling any hopes that his issues were quietly receding. House Democrats in the United States have formally summoned him to provide testimony in their congressional probe into Jeffrey Epstein’s illicit network.
This unequivocally signifies that the world has not moved past the issue, emphasizing the need for accountability regarding his association with the convicted sex offender. Robert Garcia, the leading Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, has formally requested Prince Andrew’s participation in a recorded interview. The appeal, backed by 13 other Democrats, aims to uncover the full scope of Epstein’s criminal activities and has set a response deadline of November 20.
The embattled royal, maintaining his innocence, has been implicated in materials obtained and disclosed by the committee, including flight records. Garcia asserts that the investigation seeks to identify “co-conspirators and facilitators,” employing deliberate and precise language.
This is not mere curiosity but a determined pursuit for truth.
Prince Andrew is not legally obligated to comply, as Congress lacks the power to compel testimony from foreign individuals, and Garcia lacks subpoena authority.
Moreover, the request lacks support from the committee’s Republican majority, dismissing it on partisan grounds. Nonetheless, the political discord in Washington does not diminish the gravity of the situation. The United States remains steadfast in seeking answers, while survivors rightfully demand them.
Garcia stated: “We have seen influential figures evade accountability for too long. Now, Prince Andrew has the chance to reveal the truth and deliver justice for the survivors. Oversight Democrats are unwavering in their quest for accountability and transparency for Epstein’s victims and his network of conspirators.”
For years, Prince Andrew has hoped to outlast the public outrage, expecting time to diminish the scandal’s impact. However, this hope has proven futile, as there is no escape from scrutiny for him.
In 2022, he reportedly settled with Virginia Giuffre for ÂŁ12 million, without admitting guilt.
