Prince Harry’s critical remarks about his scandal-plagued uncle are resurfacing amid ongoing controversies surrounding Prince Andrew. Initially, when Meghan entered the Royal Family following her marriage to Harry, there was a sense of excitement, as the Sussexes, along with Prince William and Princess Kate, were dubbed the ‘Fab Four’. However, despite their polished public appearances, behind the scenes, Harry and Meghan were facing personal struggles, with Meghan later disclosing her mental health challenges, including suicidal thoughts.
Tensions were escalating with other senior royals, leading Harry to acknowledge the divergence in paths between himself and his brother before their decision to step back from full-time royal duties, causing a national uproar. The late Queen and her advisors determined that the couple could not have a foot in both worlds, resulting in the swift removal of many aspects of their royal life, including their police security. This contrasted sharply with Prince Andrew, who is once again under scrutiny for his involvement in various scandals.
In his memoir, Harry revealed that he and Meghan were considered high-risk individuals, similar to the late Queen, which made the sudden withdrawal of their taxpayer-funded security in 2020 a shock. Stranded in Canada with their son, Prince Archie, as borders closed due to the Covid pandemic, the couple felt vulnerable until Hollywood tycoon Tyler Perry offered them refuge in his mansion with his private security team.
Harry’s decision to ensure Meghan’s security was influenced by the treatment of Prince Andrew, who recently announced his voluntary relinquishment of his duke title and royal honors after discussions with King Charles. Despite stepping back from public duties in 2019 amid accusations of sexual assault and ties to Jeffrey Epstein, Andrew retained police security until 2022, with the late Queen covering his private security costs.
Following the late Queen’s example, King Charles ceased funding Andrew’s private security in 2024 to encourage him to vacate Royal Lodge. This move came after years of financial support, highlighting the contrasting treatment between Prince Andrew and the Sussexes in terms of security arrangements.
