Pro-Palestine Protester Halts Keynote Speech at Labour Party Conference

-

At the Labour Party conference, a pro-Palestine protester interrupted Rachel Reeves’ keynote speech, causing her to momentarily halt her address. The protester, who voiced grievances about the treatment of Palestinian people, was escorted out by security as Reeves acknowledged the cause and affirmed the party’s recognition of a Palestinian state.

Outside the conference center in Liverpool, demonstrators demanded an end to arms sales to Israel. The protester, identified as “Sam P” by the Palestine Youth Movement and London for a Free Palestine, denounced Britain’s support for Israel and called for action to stop the ongoing atrocities.

Following the disruption, the disruptor was removed from the hall by security and handed over to Merseyside Police. This incident occurred after Keir Starmer announced the UK’s recognition of a Palestinian state due to Israel’s failure to meet certain demands, including addressing the bombardment of Gaza and the dire humanitarian situation in the region.

Reeves reiterated the party’s commitment to recognizing a Palestinian state and highlighted the tangible changes made by the current government, emphasizing the shift from protest to governance. Her remarks were met with applause from the audience at the conference hall.
