Danny Kruger, a prominent figure on the right politically and the son of the renowned Great British Bake Off host Prue Leith, has joined Nigel Farage’s Reform party, marking a surprising move away from the Conservative Party. In response, Labour criticized Farage for relying on defectors from the Conservatives, linking him to the failures of the previous government.
During a press conference announcing his switch, Kruger expressed his belief that the Conservative Party has run its course and is no longer a viable national force or effective opposition to leftist ideologies. He emphasized the need for a new alternative in the political landscape.
Kruger, known for his involvement in the hard-right New Conservatives group, will lead a new division within Reform, focusing on preparing the party for potential governance. In response, Lib Dem deputy leader Daisy Cooper accused Reform of resembling the Conservatives, suggesting a lack of substantial differences between the two.
Kruger’s move follows a trend of former Tory MPs, including Nadine Dorries, Andrea Jenkyns, and Sir Jake Berry, aligning with Farage’s camp. Conservative MP Jack Rankin praised Kruger’s intellect and character, contrasting him with recent defections.
While Farage faced calls to denounce controversial figures like Elon Musk and Tommy Robinson, he refrained from criticism, focusing on advancing Reform’s agenda. The political landscape continues to evolve as parties navigate shifting allegiances and public trust.
