Reba McEntire has officially announced her engagement to her longtime partner, Rex Linn. The revelation comes shortly after the tragic passing of her stepson, Brandon Blackstock.
The 70-year-old star of The Voice US, who shares the screen with Niall Horan and Michael Buble, subtly confirmed the news during their appearance at the Emmy Awards. Rex was introduced as Reba’s fiancé for the first time, marking a significant step in their relationship. Without denying the engagement when questioned by Zuri Hall, Reba expressed her joy at being at the event.
The couple’s relationship dates back to 1991 when they first worked together on The Gambler. However, their romantic involvement only began when they reunited on the set of Young Sheldon in 2020. Reba has been open about her strong feelings for Rex and her willingness to consider marriage, despite having been married twice before.
Reba, who was previously married to Narvel Blackstock from 1989 to 2015, faced a heartbreaking loss with the passing of Brandon, Narvel’s son from a previous relationship, in early August. Brandon, who was formerly married to Kelly Clarkson, battled cancer for three years before his death at the age of 48.
The engaged couple attended the Emmys, where Reba performed a special tribute to The Golden Girls for their 40th anniversary. Alongside Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman, they sang a rendition of the classic sitcom’s theme song before presenting an award at the event.
